Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - "American Idol" fourth judge Kara DioGuardi may or may not be back next season. The songwriter/producer reveals that the show did not intend for her to last beyond one season.
The hit Fox reality competition had stunned the American public last year when they announced they are adding a fourth judge to the already volatile group of Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.
However, now that a fourth judge is already in place in the show's eighth season, DioGuardi says she might not be coming back next season.
She tells TV Guide, "I'm only here for one season. That's what we've discussed. So we'll see what happens. Hopefully they'll keep me on."
Cowell was asked by the website if DioGuardi would be back next year, but apparently, his jurisdiction doesn't cover her.
He said, "I would imagine so, but the only say I have is about Ryan [Seacrest, host], Randy and Paula. I've always made it clear that I wouldn't like to do the show without them. So that's all I'm really concerned about."
